Setting Up A Twitter Search On Your Small Business Or Non-Profit

July 17, 2008 · 0 comments

I‘ve heard a few folks wonder “What’s that little bird all about anyhow?” Twitter, for those of you who don’t know, is a social networking microblogging tool where you can let friends know your moment-by-moment thoughts and activities - in 140 charectors or less. But how can anyone at a nonprofit benefit from it’s use? And who really cares to hear about the real time details of your life?

twitterbird-300x300 Setting Up A Twitter Search On Your Small Business Or Non-ProfitJohn Jantsch, over at DuctTapeMarketing has a great tactical use for Twitter! Turns out, Twitter has it’s own search engine that allows folks to search all the “tweets” on Twitter. You can easily find out who’s talking about your non-profit. You can find out who cares about the same cause you’re supporting.

Automate your search:

You can subscribe to the RSS feed based on particular searches you are interested in getting updates about.

Remember: It’s about the “social”, not the “media”.

Some recommend using the Twitter search ONLY for connecting with folks you might otherwise not know about. I think you can do a lot more.

After a connection is made, tweet them, pick up the phone or pay a visit to that person.
